“Unusual” kidnapping reported to Edmond; Oklahoma County Sheriff investigates

A Kasey Alert was issued for a 43-year-old woman Friday afternoon in Edmond. The alert was later canceled once the woman was found.

The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office confirmed the woman was found and safe.

The scene took place in front of an Edmond café.

Oklahoma County sheriff's deputies said they believe it was a possible robbery. However, they revealed limited facts in a case that raises many questions.

“We're trying to figure out all the details,” said Deputy Aaron Brilbeck, public information officer for the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office. “We are at the very beginning of the investigation.”

A commercial area in northwest Edmond is not typically covered by investigators. However, that was the scene Friday afternoon as Oklahoma County sheriff's deputies searched for clues.

“We are still looking for the suspects in this case,” Brilbeck said.

Brilbeck said three men who may have been carrying weapons took a 43-year-old woman from the Edmond Coffee Jerks store on North MacArthur Boulevard and Northwest 178th Street.

“We don’t believe this was a random kidnapping,” Brilbeck said.

News 9 is not naming the victim or showing her photo in this story due to lack of information and the potentially sensitive nature of the case – but Brilbeck said a deputy found the victim alone on the South Side. west of OKC.

“She was taken in and examined by EMSA,” Brilbeck said. “She is fine.”

Brilbeck said he could only share a few details about this unique case.

“I’m still trying to understand exactly what happened,” Brilbeck said. “It’s extremely unusual for something like this to happen.”

An employee at the cafe told News 9 he saw the incident but didn't understand what happened. Brilbeck said he spoke to several witnesses at that store to get more information.

Investigators said they would release more details about the case early next week.
