Ukraine will use American weapons in Russia

A red line has been crossed. President Joe Biden “secretly gave Ukraine permission to strike in Russia with American weapons.” Policy said. It's a radical shift in policy after two years of war in which Biden ostensibly tried to balance Ukraine's defensive needs with the risks of escalating tensions between America and a Russia with nuclear weapons. Until now, this has meant no direct attack on Russia with US-made weapons. “Ukraine's deteriorating conditions on the battlefield…led the president to change his mind.”

This decision means that Washington is “abandoning a pillar of its strategy of the last two years”. Foreign policy said. It comes from desperation. Ukraine's “strategic position is becoming progressively more perilous”: defenders are losing ground and undermanned while Russia has been able to replenish its depleted invasion forces more quickly than expected. Biden's decision may help Ukraine, but it means “accepting the potentially degenerative consequences that could ensue.”
