Uber passenger killed in Brisbane hit-and-run identified as Ryan Grafton

The man killed in a hit-and-run while traveling in an Uber has been identified, as police search for the driver and tributes pour in from heartbroken family and friends.

Ryan Grafton, 30, was a passenger in an Uber when a man in a stolen Ford Mondeo ran a red light and crashed into the rideshare car at high speed.

Paramedics rushed to the intersection of Boundary Road and Progress Road at 2.15am on Tuesday in Wacol, 22km southwest of Brisbane's CBD, but Mr Grafton could not be saved.

Instead of stopping to help, the driver of the Ford Mondeo fled the scene and remains on the run, with police calling his actions “despicable”.

The Uber driver, a 42-year-old man, suffered back injuries and was taken to hospital in stable condition.

A 26-year-old woman, who was also a passenger in the Camry, was taken to hospital with chest and abdominal pain.

Mr Grafton's grieving family said he would be sadly missed by his friends and loved ones.

“Ryan was a kind person. He wasn’t perfect but he had the biggest heart,” they said in a statement.

“He was loved by his family and friends.”

Queensland Police have urged the unknown driver to come forward while detectives from the Forensic Accident Unit investigate the incident.

While the vehicle involved was a Ford Mondeo, the number plates were registered to a Holden Barina.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident has been asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
