Uber driver shot and killed in Southeast Portland identified

The rideshare driver who was fatally shot Tuesday was identified by Portland police as Joshua Kelvin, 42, of Aumsville, Oregon.

Separately, ride-hailing company Uber confirmed that Kelvin was a driver for the platform and released a statement saying it was working with police to support its investigation.

The teenage passenger, who was shot and taken to a hospital Tuesday evening, remains in critical condition, police said.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy,” an Uber spokesperson wrote. “Our thoughts are with the driver’s family during this extremely difficult time and we hope that those injured make a speedy recovery.”

No arrests have been made and police have not identified any suspects.

The man's death marks the 31st homicide in Portland so far this year, compared to 38 homicides at the same time last year.

A 2022 shooting in Northeast Portland killed an Uber passenger and seriously injured his driver. Earlier that year, a father of eight was shot and killed while driving for Uber.
