Tyler man pleads for 10 years probation for shooting near college

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – A Tyler man was sentenced to 10 years of probation on three charges related to a shooting near Hubbard Middle School in 2023.

On Monday, Angel Francisco Martinez-Lopez, 21, pleaded guilty in Judge Kerry Russell's court to charges of engaging in criminal activity, deadly conduct and tampering with evidence.

He was arrested by the U.S. Marshal Service after an incident on August 28, 2023, on New Copeland Road near the Hubbard Middle School campus construction site. When police arrived on the scene, they found that Willie Ogilvie, then 18, had been shot in the lower back. Police said that just before the shooting, several people were involved in a physical altercation. Pistol and rifle bullet casings were found on the side of the road.

Martinez-Lopez agreed to 10 years of probation during his guilty plea, and he is scheduled to appear for sentencing on June 26.

Four other people were also charged in connection with the incident: Willie Ogilvie himself; Jace Ogilvie, 17, of Tyler; Anjaylee Goodwyn, 21, of Tyler; and a minor whose name has not been released.

Willie Ogilvie and Jace Ogilvie both pleaded guilty on April 1. Willie was sentenced to four years of probation and Jace to six years in prison. Goodwyn's filing shows the state announced his termination on April 1.
