Two 16-year-old boys were arrested and taken into juvenile detention in Thurston County Thursday evening after a gas station convenience store employee was robbed at gunpoint near the mall Capital Mall in Olympia.

Olympia police spokesman Lt. Paul Lower said the incident was reported around 8:15 p.m. Thursday, June 6, in the 900 block of Southwest Black Lake Boulevard. A store employee called 911 to report he had been robbed at gunpoint by two men.

Lower said two suspects entered the store and stole two boxes of cigars. The store clerk confronted the suspects outside the store and demanded they return the cigars. That's when one of the suspects pointed a handgun in the clerk's face and threatened to shoot him. The other suspect then punched the clerk in the face, leaving him with a bloody lip.

The suspects fled on foot but were later found in the shopping center parking lot. Lower said one of the suspects resisted arrest when officers found the handgun. The suspect attempted to take the officers' weapon despite being handcuffed, and he was placed in a wraparound restraint.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of robbery, first degree assault and possession of a stolen firearm.
