Two teenagers injured in Saturday shooting in Urbana

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Urbana Police Department is investigating after a 14-year-old and 16-year-old were injured in a shooting Saturday.

At approximately 7:46 p.m., officers arrived on scene near the intersection of Hunter Street and Lierman Avenue. The investigation suggests that a fight took place just before the shooting. Shortly after the end of the festivities, an unknown person stopped in a car, got out and began shooting into the crowd of spectators. The suspect then fled.

One teen was shot in the torso and the other was shot in the arm. The two victims and their parents went to the Carle emergency department to receive treatment. Police do not believe they were involved in the initial fight and said both teens are currently in stable condition and their injuries are not life-threatening.

Urbana police continue to investigate the incident and ask anyone with more information to call 217-384-2320. Tips can also be shared privately.
