Lake Charles police arrested two teenagers in a May armed robbery in which a woman was shot and killed after refusing to hand over her belongings.

Deputy Chief Kevin Kirkum said a man and woman were walking near the intersection of Enterprise Boulevard and Alamo Street just before 11 p.m. on May 28 when a group of juveniles approached them.

“Two men in the group pulled out guns and demanded the victim’s belongings,” Kirkum said. “As the victims did not obey, a shot was fired, hitting the woman. The two armed suspects then fled with the victims' belongings.

Kirkum said the man who was walking with the woman returned fire at the suspects and punched one.

The female victim and the suspect who was shot have recovered from their injuries, he said.

The suspect, Leroy De' Shawn Morris, 17, was arrested on May 29. He is charged with armed robbery, armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated second-degree battery and possession of a stolen firearm. His bail was set at $150,000.

A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested Tuesday, June 18, and is charged with armed robbery, armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated second-degree battery, and unlawful possession of a handgun by a minor.

He was booked into the juvenile detention center without bail.
