Two suspects on the loose after assault, robbery allegations in Simcoe

Two suspects are on the loose after an alleged robbery in Simcoe, Norfolk County, but police believe there is no threat to public safety.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, officers responded to reports of a theft on Norfolk Street South around 11:34 p.m. Sunday evening.

Before 10:30 p.m., police said three people broke into a home, where an argument took place with a person inside.

The person who was in the house was attacked with a knife and some of their belongings were stolen, according to police.

The three people who entered the house fled after the attack.

Police said the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Later that night, officers on patrol observed two people on Queen Street North shortly before midnight. One of the people ran away, but the other stayed. Police said the person left matched the description of one of the suspects involved in the incident.

Police said that person was arrested without incident. Officers said that during a search of the arrested person, they also found the items that had been confiscated from the victim.

Police have charged a 34-year-old Norfolk County man with armed robbery and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. The person remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at his bail hearing in Simcoe.

Police are still searching for two men in connection with the incident.

The first suspect is described as a white male, wearing a black baseball cap, gray sweatshirt and black sweatpants.

A second suspect is described as a white male, wearing dark-colored pajama-style pants, a light blue and purple hooded sweatshirt, and black Nike sandals.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Norfolk County OPP.
