Two suspected missing persons perished in plane crash at Crescent Lake on Kenai Peninsula

On Wednesday, search teams from the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center, along with the Department of Public Safety's HELO 3, continued their search around Crescent Lake on the Kenai Peninsula near Moose Pass, the search for two men missing in a plane crash reported Tuesday. Search teams are still on the ground with helicopters, divers, sonars and boats.

The two occupants of the overdue Piper PA-18 Super Cub are currently listed as missing persons and have been identified as:

  • Paul Kondrat, 41, Utah resident, commercial fixed-wing pilot and certified flight instructor
  • Mark Sletten, 46, Anchorage resident who is an Alaska Command J3 and fighter pilot

Tuesday afternoon, Alaska Wildlife Troopers were notified that two hikers had witnessed a plane crash at Crescent Lake near Moose Pass on the Kenai Peninsula. The search for the crash began and Wildlife Troopers soon learned the plane was overdue. An Alaska Air National Guard rescue team was dispatched to the site by the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center; however, they were unable to locate either male. The NTSB has been informed.
