Two police officers arrested and two officers injured following armed robbery in Urbana | News

URBANA — Two 18-year-old men are in custody following an armed robbery Saturday afternoon at an Urbana business, police said.

Shyjuan Dorris of Urbana and Jayden Jackson of Savoy were arrested by Urbana police and face charges of armed robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting a police officer resulting in injury, according to the authorities.

Police were called to the scene of an armed robbery of a person at a local business at 1:44 p.m. When they arrived, they pursued the man later identified as Dorris on foot, eventually killing him. stop at an apartment building in the 1100 block of E. Colorado.

During their pursuit, police said, two officers were injured. The nature of their injuries has not been made public; both were treated and released at a local hospital.

Police said Dorris was in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest. As they approached him, officers said they saw Dorris knocking on an apartment door, asking to enter. Officers attempted to make contact with the occupants of the apartment but were not allowed entry, police said.

After executing a search warrant with the assistance of the Champaign County METRO Team at 4:05 p.m., two individuals inside the apartment were taken to Urbana Police Headquarters for questioning .

A minor was then released to a family member without charge. A second man, Jackson, was also taken to the Champaign County Jail.
