The two motorcyclists injured Tuesday afternoon in an accident near Lyon remain in critical condition.

According to Vinnie Montez, public information officer for the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, crews were dispatched to an injury crash around 3:11 p.m. Tuesday at 53rd Avenue North and Ute Highway.

Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Patrick Rice said a deer ran into the road and collided with two people who were riding motorcycles.

The Ute Highway was closed while emergency crews responded to the scene, and both people were later taken to hospital by helicopter, Rice said.

It was not immediately clear what happened to the deer.
