Two people dead after shooting at Virginia gym

Two people are dead after a shooting at a gym in Virginia, police say.

Officers responded to the shooting that occurred around 4 p.m. Saturday at OneLife Fitness, a gym and health club in southwest Alexandria, according to the Alexandria Police Department. Two people, including the suspected shooter, were initially injured and taken to the hospital, police said.

The victim and accused shooter were pronounced dead by police Saturday evening. OneLife Fitness said neither man was an employee of the gym.

At the time of the shooting, about 60 people were inside and fled through the front and rear exits of the building, according to local media.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred Saturday at our Alexandria facility. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those involved,” OneLife Fitness said in a statement.

The cause of death for both men will be determined by the medical examiner's office, police said. The department did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the cause of the shooting.

The shooting remains under investigation by Alexandria police.
