Two people arrested in shooting in Eastpointe, Casco Township

CASCO TWP. — The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office arrested two men in connection with a reported drive-by shooting in Eastpointe Tuesday morning.

The Eastpointe Police Department told the sheriff's office it was trying to locate a man connected to the shooting who was believed to be heading to an apartment complex in Casco Township, according to a news release.

The Sheriff's Office deployed its Special Response Team to the residence to locate the suspect around 2 a.m., joined by the Port Huron Police Department's Special Response Team, Macomb County deputies and a St. Clair Sheriff's K9 Office.

A man armed with a rifle reportedly left the residence in the company of another man and a woman. The two men reportedly retreated into the apartment complex while the woman remained outside and spoke to law enforcement.

A standoff began as deputies attempted to negotiate with the men to come out and surrender. The two eventually surrendered after the sheriff's office repeatedly deployed “less lethal tactics.” Both men were arrested and taken to the Macomb County Jail around 7:45 a.m.

The Eastpointe Police Department did not respond to a request for comment about the arrest or drive-by shooting. Neither man has been identified as they have not yet been brought to justice.
