Two people arrested in connection with shooting of child in Elgin last week

Wabasha, MN (KROC-AM News) – The Wabasha County Sheriff's Office reported two arrests today in connection with an accidental shooting last week that injured a young child.

Sheriff's deputies Capt. Curt Struwe, with assistance from the Rochester Police Department, apprehended Raymond Tony Duque and Nicole Lynn McGee.

He said Duque is expected to be charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence, three counts of child endangerment by access to a firearm and careless storage of firearms. Possible charges against McGee include three counts of child endangerment by access to a firearm and careless storage of firearms.

Capt. Struwe said the arrests stem from a shooting in Elgin on June 25. He said a loaded shotgun was left unsecured in a vehicle and a six-year-old boy was accidentally shot while two other children were also in the vehicle.

After the incident, the child's injuries were described as serious. He remains hospitalized, but no information on his condition is available.
