Two people arrested following several police chases

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Two people were arrested early Thursday morning following multiple police chases this week, the Monona Police Department reports.

On June 10, police said an MOPD officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 51 near Broadway when he noticed a vehicle traveling without a license plate.

As the officer drove behind the suspect driver, the vehicle was traveling between 45 mph and 75 mph.

After police said the driver made a few unnecessary lane changes, the MOPD officer attempted to stop the driver.

Initially, the driver stopped and came to a complete stop in the flex lane along Highway 12. Police say when the officer approached the vehicle, the driver sped away. speed.

This resulted in a vehicle pursuit; however, the officer ended it at Moorland Road from Rimrock and Beltline.

A passerby directed a police officer who was searching for the suspect vehicle to a large apartment complex in the 1100 block of Moorland Road.

The officer found the car unoccupied, MOPD reports.

Police say other resources were called to the scene, including a drone operator from another police department.

As the drone was flying through the air, police say the operator noticed a vehicle enter the complex and pick up several individuals who were nearby.

Another agency attempted to stop the vehicle; however, police say the chase ended. This pursuit allowed police to obtain more information about the vehicle and the people associated with it.

During the investigation, MOPD learned that the Chevrolet SUV used to pick up people at the apartment complex was involved in dangerous and reckless driving events and several elusive incidents in Madison.

In the early morning hours of June 13, MOPD officers found the same Chevrolet Captiva that was involved in the first vehicle pursuit along South Towne Drive in the Town of Monona. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it failed to stop, resulting in a police pursuit.

Another MODP officer participating in the pursuit successfully deployed a tire deflation device along Rimrock Road at Moorland Road.

Police said the driver then turned onto Dunwoody Drive and everyone in the vehicle ran out.

Police say the other suspect claimed he was looking for a house party and decided to hide from authorities. MOPD says the suspect was also wearing a black ski mask.

Evidence found at the scene linked the two suspects to the vehicle, MOPD reports.

Police say one of the suspects had the car key in his possession. A small quantity of marijuana was also reportedly found at the scene.

A 22-year-old Madison resident was arrested and faces charges of resisting/obstructing a peace officer. Police say he has a criminal history for offenses including eluding crimes.

A 22-year-old Middleton resident was also taken into custody and faces charges of resisting/obstructing a peace officer. MOPD said at the time of this incident, the Middleton resident was out on bail awaiting trial on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
