Two people arrested following knife attack in Springhill

Two people have been arrested in connection with a stabbing incident in Springhill following a vehicle collision in the early hours of June 10.

Cumberland County District RCMP responded to the 100 block of McGee Street around 4:40 a.m. after receiving a report of a vehicle crashing into a parked car.

Police said a 50-year-old Springhill man, who witnessed the incident, tried to stop the suspects from leaving and was then stabbed.

He was taken to hospital with injuries that police described as not life-threatening.

The suspects, identified as a 31-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, both from Springhill, initially managed to elude officers at the scene, but a day later police located and arrested the woman . An arrest warrant was issued for the 22-year-old man, Spencer Hatton, who was also safely arrested later that day.

Hatton remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Amherst provincial court on June 18 to face multiple charges, including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats to kill or of bodily harm.

The unidentified 31-year-old woman was released on conditions. She is scheduled to appear in Amherst provincial court on August 12.th for failure to stop after an accident and possession of property obtained by crime.
