Three additional fires discovered north of Fairbanks for a total of five

Updated 11:15 p.m. – Firefighters are engaged in the Aggie Creek Fire (#246), the Old Murphy Dome Road Fire (#245) and the Washington Creek Fire (#247 ). With the map going live, this will be the last update of the evening. For more information and future updates, visit AKFireInfo.com.

10:45 p.m. Update – Four smokejumpers have deployed on the Aggie Creek Fire (No. 246). It burns in mixes of spruce and hardwoods on a ridge north of Washington Creek, above its confluence with Aggie Creek. This fire is 3.25 miles northwest of Himilaya Loop and is estimated to be 0.25 acres.

THE Old Murphy Dome Road Fire (#245) is on the north bank of the Chatanika River near river mile 68, 2.25 miles south of Himilaya Loop. It is estimated at 0.25 acres. Helitack deployed his fire crew and began dropping buckets. Two twin-engine water harvesting planes, the CL-415, also dropped water on the fire. Four smoke bombs were deployed on the fire.

Air Attack discovered two more fires while monitoring a third outbreak further west. Washington Creek Fire (#247) is also on the north side of Washington Creek, approximately 5.5 miles downstream from the confluence of Aggie and Washington Creeks. This fire is located in the burned area of 2022 Minto Lakes Fire. The two additional fires are located to the north, along the North Star borough boundary, on a ridge east of the Tolovana River, Slate Fire (#248) And Iver (#249).

Updated 9:30 p.m. — Firefighters with the Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection are responding to a reported fire along the Chatanika River. Helitack reported the fire was actively burning near river mile 68, threatening nearby cabins. As Helitack surveyed the scene, they discovered an additional fire north of Washington Creek, 3.25 miles northwest of Himilaya Loop. Fire Boss water collection planes were dispatched as well as smoke bombs.
