Two motorcyclists hospitalized and third arrested for evading police after crash in Bristol

BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) — Two motorcyclists were injured and a third was arrested after a crash in Bristol Monday evening.

The Bristol Police Department said Jacob Mazza, 24, fled from officers after a crash at the intersection of Metacom Avenue and Annawamscutt Avenue.

Police said officers responded to reports of a crash involving motorcycles around 10:40 p.m. and determined two motorcycles were involved in what authorities believe was a road rage incident.

Both drivers were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries, according to officials, who said their conditions are unknown at this time.

While police were investigating, authorities said Mazza, who authorities believe was connected to the initial crash, drove his motorcycle to the crash scene.

Officials said Mazza ignored officers' commands and sped down Metacom Avenue before losing control and crashing a short distance away.

Police said Mazza was treated for minor injuries at Rhode Island Hospital and then arraigned by a bail bondsman.

Authorities said he faces the following charges:

  • DUI of alcohol or drugs
  • Refusal to submit to chemical test
  • Escape from law enforcement at high speed
  • Officer obstructing the exercise of his duties

Mazza was released and is scheduled to appear in District Court on July 12.
