Kollam: After around 40 Indians lost their lives in the Kuwait fire, two more deceased from Kerala have been identified in the tragic accident.

The deceased have been identified as Lucose (48) and Sajan George (29), both hailing from Kollam town in Kerala.


Lucose worked as a supervisor at NBTC Company in Kuwait for 18 years. He leaves behind his wife Shiny and his two children, Lydia and Lois. His relatives said he told them he would come home next week.

Another deceased, Sajan George, an MTech graduate, hailed from Punalur in Kollam. He went to Kuwait after finding a job a month ago. He worked there as a junior mechanical engineer.

Around 40 Indians are believed to have died and more than 50 injured in a tragic fire at a workers' accommodation center in Kuwait's Mangaf region on Wednesday, the foreign ministry said, adding that the injured were being treated in five public hospitals in Kuwait. Kuwait.

Earlier, Shameer, 30, a native of Sooranad village in Kerala's Kollam district, was identified among the victims of the tragedy.

Before leaving for Kuwait to oversee assistance to Indians injured in the devastating fire and ensure repatriation of mortal remains of those killed, Union Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said some of the bodies were charred beyond recognition.

“The rest of the situation will be clear as soon as we get there,” Vardhan said. “Most of the people are from Kerala and other parts of South India and the identification process is underway…,” he said, adding, “We will stay there for as long as that we will need it.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sadness over the fire incident in Kuwait, adding that his thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victims of the incident.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also expressed grief over the incident and urged Foreign Minister S Jaishankar to make necessary arrangements for the rescue operations.

“Deeply saddened by the tragic fire at the Mangaf apartment complex in Kuwait which left over 40 people dead and many injured. Reports indicate that several Keralites are among the victims. Wrote to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar requesting him to make necessary arrangements to coordinate rescue operations. We share the grief of the families and friends of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” he said in a message on X.
