Two more Keralites identified among 40 Indians killed in Kuwait fire, IAF plane to fly bodies home

Kuwait City: The death toll in the devastating fire that ripped through a six-story building in Kuwait on Wednesday morning has reached 49 people, with reports claiming more than 50 others were injured. MEA officials said more than 40 of the victims were Indians. The building which caught fire housed several other foreign workers.

IAF plane will take bodies home

Meanwhile, Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh said the bodies of some of the Indians killed in the Kuwait fire were charred beyond recognition and DNA tests were being carried out to confirm the identity of the victims. Reports also suggested that the bodies of the Indians would be flown home in an IAF plane.

Nearly 200 people lived in the building where the fire broke out in the kitchen, and authorities said most of the deaths were due to smoke inhalation while they slept.

Two more Keralites identified

After around 40 Indians lost their lives in the Kuwait fire, two more deceased from Kerala have been identified in the tragic accident. The deceased have been identified as Lucose (48) and Sajan George (29), both hailing from Kollam town in Kerala.

Lucose worked as a supervisor at NBTC Company in Kuwait for 18 years. He leaves behind his wife Shiny and his two children Lydia and Lois. His relatives said he told them he would come home next week.

Another deceased, Sajan George, an M.Tech graduate, hailed from Punalur in Kollam. He went to Kuwait after finding a job a month ago. He worked there as a junior mechanical engineer.

Around 40 Indians are believed to have died and more than 50 others were injured in a tragic fire at a workers' accommodation center in Kuwait's Mangaf region on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry said, adding that the injured were treated in five public hospitals. in Kuwait.

Earlier, a 30-year-old Shameer, hailing from Sooranad village in Kollam district of Kerala, was identified among the victims of the tragedy.

PM Modi expresses grief

Prime Minister Modi expressed sadness over the fire incident in Kuwait, adding that his thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victims of the incident.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also expressed grief over the incident and urged Foreign Minister S Jaishankar to make necessary arrangements for the rescue operations.
