Two minors were arrested in the city center this weekend

INDIANAPOLIS — Police are urging parents to know the whereabouts of their children after a few children were arrested downtown over the weekend.

“As far as young people are concerned, it’s troubling,” said Tanya Terry, IMPD deputy chief.

Police said a 14-year-old boy was arrested after he was caught throwing firecrackers at passers-by and horse-drawn carriages.
Police say they also arrested a 15-year-old girl for threatening a police officer.

“I would ask parents and community guardians to be curious about what their youth are doing,” added IMPD Deputy Chief Terry.

IMPD also said there were also multiple disturbances and fighting just south of the circle where large groups of adults and juveniles had gathered. Police said an adult was arrested on charges of battery and disorderly conduct.

IMPD says the teens who were arrested over the weekend were not in violation of the state's juvenile curfew law.

“They all came and they pushed her and us and they went in,” a KOKO Tea employee said.

Photos show the aftermath of what two employees described to WRTV Monday. They said it all started with a fight outside the business, before the teens burst through the door.

“There are only 3 of us – there were about 30 to 40 people. We didn’t know what they were going to do,” the employee added.

IMPD says it urges businesses to contact the department if they have issues with teens in and around downtown.
