Two men face trafficking charges after police raid residence in Hay River, Northwest Territories

Two people are each facing multiple charges after RCMP in Hay River, Northwest Territories, searched a local residence and found drugs and cash.

In a news release issued Wednesday, police said they executed a search warrant at the residence early Tuesday morning as part of a firearms investigation.

Police did not find any firearms during the search and said part of the investigation was ongoing.

RCMP found 24 grams of cocaine, $3,700 in cash and other evidence of drug trafficking.

A 30-year-old Ontario man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, assault with a weapon and pointing a firearm. He was also charged with failing to comply with a release condition requiring him to live in Ontario.

A 35-year-old Hay River man was also charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, as well as possession of proceeds of crime and breaching conditions of release.

RCMP said two other men, both from Hay River, were released until a later court date, but did not provide details of the charges against them. A fifth person was arrested during the search but released without charge.
