Two men arrested on aggravated drug charges in Maine

Two men were arrested on aggravated drug trafficking charges Friday evening after a traffic stop in Alfred where fentanyl and methamphetamine were found in a takeout container.

Drugs seized and two men arrested

The York County Sheriff's Office said Miguel Hernandez, 23, and Layhonel Baez, 27, both from Lawrence, Massachusetts, were arrested around 9 p.m. on Biddeford Road.

K-9 alerted to presence of narcotics in vehicle

K-9 Rebel and Deputy Frazier “sniffed the exterior of the vehicle and alerted to the odor of narcotics,” the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect fled into the woods during the search

During the search, Layhonel fled on foot into the woods. Deputy Johnson apprehended Layhonel a short time later.

Drug seized from Chinese food container

Officers seized 36.7 grams of fentanyl and methamphetamine compound in a container of Chinese food.

Charges and bail

Miguel was charged with aggravated drug trafficking with bail set at $10,000. Layhonel was charged with aggravated drug trafficking and will be charged with refusing to submit to arrest or detention. His bond was set at $15,000.
