Two men arrested following suspected armed robbery attempt

SALISBURY, N.C. – Two men were arrested after being accused of attempting to burglarize an armored truck in Rowan County, according to the sheriff's office.

Around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, a deputy was called to the Five Below store on Tingle Drive in Salisbury regarding two suspicious males.

The suspects – Devonte Scott and Raymond Tino – were standing near a Brinks armored truck, wearing hoodies with the word “Security” on them, according to the sheriff's office.

When the deputy began to approach them, Scott and Tino walked away. The deputy continued to call and told them to show their hands before fleeing on foot and leaving the area in a gold Nissan Altima.

China Grove police officers quickly located the suspect's vehicle and pursued it until they stopped at a car dealership on Mount Oliver Road in Kannapolis.

Officials said three suspects got out of the vehicle and Scott and Tino were the two who were apprehended. No information on the third suspect has been released.

Both were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Tino was charged with two other charges — resisting a public officer and property damage — after damaging the patrol vehicle's cage, the sheriff's office said.

Officers then obtained a search warrant on the suspect’s vehicle and found a Glock .40 caliber handgun.

Scott and Tino were taken to the Rowan County Detention Center and given no bond.
