Two Las Vegas officers identified in shooting with hostage suspect

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police identified two officers who shot and injured a suspect accused of taking a woman hostage during a domestic dispute Saturday evening.

Officers Alfredo Chavez and Cruz Littlefield have both been with the department since 2022 and are assigned to the Eastern Community Policing Division.

They were both placed on routine paid administrative leave pending a review of the shooting, LVMPD said.

It is standard protocol for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to identify officers involved in deadly confrontations 48 hours after the incident.

LVMPD previously said they received a 911 call from a woman asking for help in the 5000 block of E. Craig Road around 11:10 p.m. on Saturday, June 8.

When officers arrived, they saw a man “armed with a knife forcibly holding a woman hostage” outside an apartment complex, police said.

The man allegedly tried to stab the woman and the two police officers opened fire. The suspect and woman were taken to UMC Trauma. There has been no update on their conditions.

LVMPD is expected to hold a news conference about the shooting this week.
