Two deputies injured after partygoers flee AirBnB in Nance County

News

Officers found more than 100 people and 20 vehicles on the rental property Friday evening.

Update:

NANCE COUNTY — Two deputies suffered minor injuries after partygoers tried to flee a party in southwest Nance County Friday evening.

According to the Nance County Sheriff's Office, around 10:45 p.m. they received a report of a large party taking place at an AirBnB in rural southwest Nance County.

The caller reported loud music and several minors consuming alcohol.

After their arrival, more than 100 people and more than 20 vehicles were on the property.

When people saw the deputies, many fled to their vehicles after the deputies attempted to contact them.

Eight vehicles crashed into a ditch near the property and became stuck. Two deputies suffered minor injuries after being struck by vehicles attempting to flee.

Several partygoers were identified as minors. The property was discovered to have been rented by an 18-year-old on the AirBnB app.

Deputies estimated damages inside the property, including graffiti on walls, damaged furniture and floors, at $3,000. Vehicles also damaged several headstones at a nearby cemetery.

More than 30 citations were issued for Minors in Possession of Alcohol (MIPS) and hundreds of alcoholic beverages were recovered on the property. Other charges are pending and under investigation and recovery efforts resumed Saturday.

The Merrick County Sheriff's Office, Howard County Sheriff's Office and Smith & Sons Repair LLC also participated in the call.
