Two people were killed and another was seriously injured in two separate shootings that closed all entry lanes to the Stevenson Expressway Wednesday morning.

Around 2:10 a.m., state troopers responded to calls of a crash and a person shot on the northbound ramp of Interstate 55 near the southbound ramp of Interstate 94 in Halsted, according to Illinois State Police.

About 10 minutes later, state troopers responded to another shooting and crash on the northbound lanes of Interstate 94 at the Stony Island Avenue ramp, state police said.

In that attack, a tow truck driver stopped to help a motorist and shots were fired following an altercation, authorities said.

Paramedics responded to the scene at 9500 South Stony Island Avenue and found a 50-year-old man who had been shot, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man, whose age is unknown, was also shot and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition, the spokesperson said.

All inbound lanes from Stevenson remained blocked on the Dan Ryan Expressway around 7:15 a.m., state police said.
