Two BJP supporters stabbed by Muslim group in Karnataka while celebrating Modi's swearing-in

Mangaluru: Two BJP supporters were stabbed and another was beaten up by a group of 20-25 Muslim youths on Sunday evening, following an altercation in Karnataka's Boliyar under Konaje police station limits .

The incident is said to have taken place after BJP workers observed vijayotsava to mark the inauguration ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the third term.

Superintendent of Police Anupam Agrawal said Harish (41) and Nandakumar (24) were injured, both hailing from Innoli, while Krishna Kumar was also beaten up by the group.

The commissioner said the three BJP supporters were passing a mosque in Boliyar and allegedly shouted slogans. They were then followed by a group of 20 to 25 young Muslims on bicycles.

The three men stopped outside a bar 2 km before the mosque, when the group got into an altercation, leading to two of them being stabbed and another being beaten.

One of the stabbing victims is out of danger while another underwent surgery at a private hospital in Deralakatte.

Police increased security following the incident. BJP leaders, including BJP Dakshina Kannada president Sathish Kumpala, rushed to the hospital.

A large number of BJP workers also gathered outside the Konaje police station demanding the arrest of the suspects.

Konaje police have registered a case and investigation is underway.
