Two 12-year-old boys have been found guilty of the machete murder of a “completely defenseless” 19-year-old.

Shawn Seesahai was found stabbed to death on a playground in Wolverhampton in November.

Nottingham Crown Court heard that Mr Seesahai's legs, back and head were all slashed with a machete.

He was hit on the head so hard that a piece of bone broke off before he was beaten and kicked.

The two 12-year-olds, who cannot be named due to their ages, were both charged with murder and possession of a sharp object a day after the attack.

Detective Damian Forrest said his experienced team were left in shock when two 12-year-old boys were identified as suspects.

He said: “I've been a police officer for 20 years and this isn't the first time I've been out with a young man who lost his life in a really violent way, but to then find out that two 12-year-olds were responsible was shocking and made all of us members of the investigation team stop, pause and think about some things.

Paying tribute to her son, Shawn's mother described him as a “brave, compassionate and confident young soul.”

Mr Seesahai, who lived in Handsworth in Birmingham but was originally from Anguilla in the Caribbean, had traveled to the UK to receive treatment for cataracts.

On November 13, he had traveled with friends to Wolverhampton, when the two 12-year-olds were together from 4.10pm that afternoon, meeting two girls of the same age who were witnesses in the case.

The jury heard that one of the girls told police that one of the accused regularly carried a machete, that he had one that day and that he and another boy were “passing it back and forth between them” .

Prosecutor KC Michelle Heeley said: “It is understandable that a weapon of this type and size could cause fatal injuries in such a short period of time.

“While these two boys were roaming the streets with a deadly weapon, Mr. Seesahi was just with his friends.”

After spending some time sitting with a friend on a bench and walking near the basketball courts, the court heard Mr Seesahai and his friend “meet” with the defendants as the boys passed machetes between them, with one commenting: “Keep walking. '.

The gun had been removed from one of the boys' pants and made available for use “despite the fact that Shawn Seesahai and his friends had not displayed any violence or done anything that might cause offense.” (young people) “.

A witness described seeing a boy pick up the machete and hold it in the air, with Mr Seesahai falling to the ground and then being punched and kicked.

One of the youths, aged 12, claimed to have obtained the machete used in the murder from a “friend of a friend”, but police said there was evidence he had been looking for knives online.

Detective Inspector Damian Forrest, who led the investigation, said: “The weapon was a large machete which no person who does not need it as a tool of their trade should have reason to possess.

“Obviously, originally, it would have been a gardening tool.

“While the facts of this case mean we cannot say with certainty how this weapon came into the suspects' possession, some evidence suggests that one of them had attempted to purchase knives on the internet.”
