Turbo's murderer sentenced to prison

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A San Angelo man has been sentenced to prison for the murder of Shawn “Turbo” Clark.

Paul Zipper, 54, was convicted of two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, escape, tampering with a corpse and murder.

According to court documents, on May 25, 2022, San Angelo Police were dispatched to Shannon South Hospital, located at 3501 Knickerbocker Road, for the report of a shooting victim, Otis Bryan.

Officers arrived and spoke with the woman who transported the victim to the hospital. She said she was in the garage of their residence when she heard a gunshot and the victim fell to the ground. She then took the victim to the hospital.

Officers spoke with Bryan, who said Zipper shot him. However, hospital staff were providing life-saving care to Bryan, so no additional information could be obtained at this time.

On May 26, 2022, Bryan woke up from a medically induced coma and spoke with investigators again. This time, he said Zipper shot and killed Shawn Clark.

On May 24, 2022, Clark and Zipper were at Giz and Hum's Billiards and Brews, as confirmed by surveillance footage obtained from the establishment. The two men were also at Parrot Head Tavern and were seen leaving the bar at 12:12 a.m. on May 25.

Clark went to a residence in the 1900 block of Dena Drive to return a stolen paintball gun to Bryan and his girlfriend, according to court documents. While at the residence, Clark received a phone call from Zipper. Approximately 10 minutes later, Zipper arrived at the residence and immediately got into a verbal confrontation with Clark.

Zipper pulled out a handgun and shot Clark in the chest, then shot Bryan as he tried to flee.

Zipper then transported Clark's body to Irion County, where he was observed by an Irion County sheriff's deputy. The deputy activated his emergency lights, after which Zipper began driving erratically and refused to stop. The deputy lost Zipper somewhere within the San Angelo city limits.

Shortly thereafter, San Angelo Dispatch received a call about a suspicious person, Zipper, in the 3600 block of Driftwood Drive.

Zipper was finally arrested on June 27, 2022 and has remained in the Tom Green County Jail since.

Earlier this week, Zipper was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the murder of Shawn Clark, 20 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with a corpse, and 10 years for evading arrest or to detention.

These sentences will run concurrently.
