Tulsa man charged with murder near yard sale Saturday morning

A 56-year-old man accused of a fatal shooting near a garage sale over the weekend was identified by Tulsa police Monday morning.

Officers responded to the call around 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of North Vandalia Avenue. They reportedly found the suspected shooter, Rodney Hunter, providing first aid to the victim, Ray Orcutt.

Investigators believe Hunter, who lives in the neighborhood, was arguing with Orcutt while the latter was sitting across the street from a yard sale. Hunter allegedly tried to make Orcutt leave, police said, and eventually shot Orcutt in the back.

“Hunter then took his pistol from inside his home, went outside and began attempting to render aid to the victim,” police said Monday.

Orcutt was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Police said he was the city's 27th homicide victim in 2024.

Police said they will continue to work with tribal or federal prosecutors on this case because Hunter is a Native citizen. He remains in custody in the Tulsa County Jail on behalf of federal authorities, according to online jail records.
