Truck fire causes major delays on I-95 in Philadelphia – NBC10 Philadelphia

Motorists face heavy traffic on I-95 in Philadelphia after firefighters responded to a tractor-trailer fire.

The jackknifed truck caught fire around 4:45 a.m. Friday on southbound I-95 at exit 25 (Allegheny Avenue, Castor Avenue), near the Betsy Ross Bridge. The driver of the truck was able to escape and the firefighters who intervened brought the fire under control shortly before 5:30 a.m.

All lanes of I-95 were initially closed due to the fire. All lanes of northbound I-95 and the shoulder of southbound I-95 were reopened around 6 a.m.

SkyForce10 was on the scene shortly after 6 a.m., showing the charred remains of the truck.

Authorities have not yet revealed the cause of the fire or the condition of the driver.

There are currently heavy delays on I-95 southbound between Exit 26 (Venango Street) and Exit 23 (Girard Avenue) as crews work to remove the remains of the truck.

Drivers on the Pennsylvania side of I-95 can take Roosevelt Boulevard (Route 1) south to I-76 to bypass traffic. New Jersey drivers, meanwhile, can take the Betsy Ross Bridge to Route 130, then Route 30 to I-676.
