Truck driver crashes into Tesla near Salt Lake City in suspected road rage incident, flees, police say – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

LEHI, Utah (WSVN) — A road rage incident in Utah was caught on camera, scaring a couple and leading police to cite a hit-and-run driver.

Kyle Rummens said a driver got a little too close for comfort. Prosecutors are now preparing charges in a road rage case.

“I mean, we were both shaking,” Rummens said.

Rummens said he and his partner were driving their Tesla near Salt Lake City when they saw a ticked-off driver.

“I noticed this guy in our rearview mirror, and I just noticed him being very agitated,” he said.

So agitated that he started ramming his truck into the back of the Tesla. The reversing camera captured the truck pushing him, 100 feet down the road, before backing up and speeding away.

The couple stopped and called 911. That's when they noticed the damage to their car.

“You can see, you know, there's just a lot of scratches everywhere, and there's some pretty significant dents here, and there's a reflector that came out,” Rummens said.

Police then caught up with the truck and cited the driver for a hit-and-run, and they said it was because of this video.

“The rear-facing dash cam is really what saved us in this case,” one officer said.

Investigators are now looking into whether new charges are warranted.

“We have now begun to look at other potential charges ranging from assault to criminal mischief to felony-type criminal mischief,” said Lehi Police Lt. Bart Smith.

Utah officials said they have seen an increase in these types of cases. Recently, the state passed a bill that increases penalties for drivers who engage in road rage.
