Troubleshooting Google Maps Reviews for Missing and Deleted Reviews

Google Community Manager Alistair D. has posted a troubleshooting and FAQ document on reviews in the Google Business Profiles forums. It explains why reviews disappear, how to remove reviews, and how to fix these issues with Google Business Profiles tools.

Missing reviews

Alistair wrote: “There are several reasons why reviews may be removed from maps. Typically, missing reviews are removed due to policy violations, such as spam or inappropriate content. Read more about our review policy guidelines here before proceeding. You can also check out our Help Center article for more information.”

Here's what Alistair posted:

Please follow these steps to report missing reviews:

  • Contact support
  • Select your business from the drop-down menu. (Make sure the company meets all eligibility guidelines)
  • Type Missing Review under “Tell us what we can help you with”
  • Choose Missing Notice under “Choose the best description for this issue.”

To help Google speed up your request, include the following information in the description:

  • Business Profile ID (instructions here)
  • (Optional) You can add screenshots of missing reviews
  • How many reviews are missing from the profile?
  • Are new reviews posted on the profile?
  • How long have the reviews been disappearing? (For example, did they all disappear within the last week? Or did you notice that they consistently disappear over a longer period of time?)
  • Name(s) of the reviewer
  • Associated case ID(s)

Delete reviews

To report an inappropriate review for removal, you can use Google Maps or Google Search. Removed reviews will no longer appear on both.

Report a review on Google Maps

  • On your computer, open Google Maps.
  • Find your business profile.
  • Search for the review you want to report.
  • Click More > Report as Inappropriate

Report a review in the review management tool

  • Access the review management tool.
  • Verify that the email address displayed is the one you use to manage your business profile. Tip: If you're using a different email address, click Change Account.
  • Click Confirm.
  • Select your business. Report a new review for removal.
  • For each review you want to report, click Report.
  • In the new tab, select a category for the exam.
  • Click Submit.
