Tristas Casas recounts his father's arrest

Boston Red Sox infielder Triston Casas celebrated Father's Day by telling the story of his father's arrest while teaching him an important life lesson.

During Sunday's series finale against the New York Yankees, Casas was given a microphone to chat with the ESPN broadcast booth from the dugout. He took this moment to remember the unorthodox lesson his father had given him when he was younger. It happened in the middle of a baseball game.

“I go out one day and come back to the dugout crying, upset,” Casas said. “That’s what a six-year-old does.” He sits on the bench and cries, and he doesn't want to come out when his team is playing defense. So my dad, being the dad he is, trying to teach me the lessons he did in his own way, walked into the dugout. He actually grabbed me by my shirt, dragged me to the line and, Looney Tunes style, kicked me across the field; and actually i had one of my best friends that i went to high school with later – he ended up playing pro ball – his mom actually called child services about my dad [and] I had him arrested on the ground… I see my father leaving in the police car. Gets arrested [and] spends the night in prison.

Although he saw his father being arrested, Casas said his

the message still got through.

“That day my father taught me a very valuable lesson that not many people know,” Casas said, “and that was that I had a responsibility to my teammates. I had a responsibility to my coaches , to the parents who were there that day, all the fans who were at that Little League game – no matter what – for going out there and giving my best, no matter what. I felt on the bench, no matter what I was going through that day, or whatever little difficulties I felt coming out.
