Tripura: Man arrested for alleged involvement in human trafficking

Agartala: In a significant development, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Tripura has apprehended a young man allegedly involved in human trafficking.

The suspect, identified as Jhutan Dutta, was arrested from Matai area of ​​Belonia sub-division in the Southern District.

This arrest is the result of a meticulous operation carried out by Agartala GRP, following the arrest of four Bangladeshi women arrested for illegally crossing the state border. These women were intercepted by GRP officers at Agartala railway station and then taken into custody.

“During interrogation of the detained Bangladeshi women, it was revealed that Jhutan Dutta, residing in Matai area under Belonia police station, helped them enter the state illegally,” Tapas Das said, officer in charge of Agartala GRP. police station.

Officials further revealed that Jhutan Dutta has a criminal record, including a pending case with the Guwahati branch of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

“Together with Tripura Police in Belonia, we arrested Jhutan Dutta, who was later handed over to the court on Sunday, seeking police remand,” added OC Tapas Das.
