On Sunday evening, the Border Security Force (BSF) held a commander-level meeting with their Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) counterparts, during which the weapons and radio set were returned.

A BSF official privy to the matter said, “The BSF officer of the BSF was carrying out outpost duties at Gate No. 196 of the Indo-Bangladesh border fence in the area of 150 billion BSF Kalamchera border outpost and was responsible for operating the fence gate. Around 1:30 p.m., a large group of Bangladeshi miscreants illegally crossed the international border and gathered near the fence with the intention of smuggling sugar. Further, they started uttering abusive remarks and instigated the BSF officer on duty to use provocative language and vulgar gestures.

Constable Bhole, charged with dispersing the miscreants and preventing smuggling, entered the fence through the gate.

The BSF said in a statement that the Bangladeshi smugglers assaulted constable Bhole and tried to drag him to the Bangladesh side.

During their attempted kidnapping, they also seized his personal weapon and his radio.

“Constable Bhole managed to escape, but he was attacked with bamboo sticks and iron bars, resulting in serious injuries,” a BSF spokesperson said, adding that a commander level meeting had taken place with his counterpart and a strong protest had been lodged by the BSF. .

“During the flag meeting, the seized weapons and radio set were returned to BSF by BGB,” the spokesperson said.
