Triple felon sentenced after being found with gun on Rosebud Reserve | News

PIERRE – A St. Francis man convicted of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person has been sentenced.

On January 1, 2023, police were searching for 35-year-old Tyson Quigley, also known as Tyson Stands, near St. Francis, within the boundaries of the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation. The search was based on an alleged home invasion that occurred that morning in St. Francis.

During the search, Quigley was found in a vehicle parked at a residence near St. Francis. A .40 caliber pistol was found in the vehicle he was found in.

Quigley has three prior felony convictions, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm or ammunition.

  • In 2013, he was convicted of domestic assault on a pregnant woman in Platte County, Nebraska.
  • In 2018, he was convicted of possession of a firearm in the United States District Court for the District of South Dakota.
  • In 2019, he was convicted of possession of methamphetamine in Madison County, Nebraska.

A federal grand jury indicted Quigley in February 2023. He was convicted after a three-day jury trial in April 2024 and sentenced on July 1, 2024.

Tyson Quigley was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in federal prison followed by 3 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $100 to the federal Crime Victims Fund and to forfeit ownership of the .40-caliber firearm to the United States.

After the sentencing, Quigley was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
