Transgender Teen's 'Teeth' Exploded When She Was Punched For Using Minnesota School Restroom

US News

A transgender teenager has described the horrifying moment her 'teeth exploded' when she was allegedly punched in the face and called a 'f—-t' by a student after trying to use the boys' toilet at her high school of Minnesota.

Cobalt Sovereign, 17, said the beating happened just moments after the boy looked over the booth she was occupying at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka and allegedly hurled the insult at her, KARE reported.

“I was hit in the jaw and at that moment one of my teeth blew out, pieces went into my mouth,” the teen said of the May 30 attack.

“My jaw was broken in two places… molar, just broken. »

The teenager was rushed to hospital following the incident and underwent hours-long surgery to fit her jaw with three titanium plates.

“He had no reason to have anything against me, I never spoke to him, I never did anything negative to him. And I was insulted and then finally punched in the jaw,” Sovereign said.

Although the school has single-sex restrooms, Sovereign said it was sometimes more convenient to use the men's restroom, even though it made her uncomfortable.

“It makes me incredibly uncomfortable to be in the men's bathroom,” the teen said, adding that she had never been afraid to use them before.

“I would rather be uncomfortable than make others uncomfortable by using the women’s restroom,” Sovereign added.

Meanwhile, the Minnetonka Police Department is currently investigating the alleged assault as a possible hate crime.

It was not immediately clear whether charges would be filed against the student, who has not been publicly identified.

Hopkins High School officials confirmed that the student responsible for Sovereign's alleged punch was immediately disciplined, although they did not provide details on the punishment.

It is school policy to suspend a student involved in a fight.
