Train traffic delayed after car crashes into fence and lands near train tracks at Mansfield station | Local News

The adult driver was arrested and taken into custody, but police are still investigating and determining charges, Police Chief Ron Sellon said.

The driver's name was not immediately released by police.

The car entered Mansfield Avenue, parallel to the railroad tracks, from North Main Street and crashed into the fence that separates the roadway from the railroad tracks, according to police.

The car came to rest along the northbound train tracks.

Mansfield Avenue was closed for about two hours and all train traffic was halted after the crash, police said.

The northbound lanes were closed for about two hours, but the southbound lane was opened to train traffic, according to police.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority warned on X, formerly known as Twitter, of delays due to the crash shortly before 12:30 p.m. and said traffic was traveling at reduced speeds in one lane.

Train service resumed after the vehicle was removed, the MBTA said an hour later.

Amtrak trains also operate on the tracks.

The chain link fence was repaired Thursday afternoon, according to police.

Local police were assisted by Amtrak police and MBTA transit police.
