Traffic stoppage near Moody intensifies to cross Greater Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – ALEA arrested two suspects after they engaged in a car chase through St. Clair, Jefferson and Shelby County Tuesday morning, according to ALEA Senior Trooper Vu Quang.

At approximately 6:56 a.m., an ALEA Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop a 2022 Volvo XC60 for speeding on I-20 between Moody and Pell City.

According to Quang, the driver of the Volvo failed to stop and a chase ensued.

The pursuit continued onto I-20 in Jefferson County and onto I-65 in Shelby County.

During the pursuit, the Volvo struck a 2015 Ford F-250, causing minor damage.

The driver of the Volvo was arrested and later identified as Chesnie M. Redmond, 38, of Fountain Inn, South Carolina.

She was charged with attempted escape, reckless endangerment, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Redmond also received citations for several traffic violations.

The passenger, Denzel M. Talton, 26, of Greer, South Carolina, fled on foot and was later apprehended.

Talton was charged with attempted escape and possession of marijuana.

“The traffic stop and arrests were successful due to a joint effort between ALEA and the Alabaster Police Department,” Quang wrote.

No injuries were reported.

Nothing further is available as ALEA continues to investigate.
