POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) – A routine traffic stop near Pocatello turned into a major drug bust by Idaho State Highway Patrol on Tuesday.

Idaho State Police said a DHE officer stopped a car on Interstate 86 for having an invalid registration.

The officer said the driver, a 23-year-old woman from California, did not have a valid driver's license.

The officer also observed suspicious behavior from the passengers and the smell of marijuana coming from the car.

A search of the car revealed more than 18 pounds of methamphetamine, as well as several THC cartridges.

The driver was arrested and booked into the Bannock County Jail on charges of trafficking methamphetamine.

The three passengers were also arrested, including a 34-year-old woman from Tulare, California, on charges of trafficking methamphetamine.

She was booked into the Bannock County Jail.

Two juveniles have been booked into the Bannock County Juvenile Detention Center on drug charges.

“This seizure underscores our unwavering commitment to eliminating illegal drugs from our communities,” said Chris Cottrell, DHE Canine Sergeant. “These dangerous substances pose significant risks to public health and safety, and we remain committed to protecting our citizens.”
