Atmore police have released the name of the only person charged in the April 23 knife fight that took place in the parking lot of Tractor Supply on Lindberg Avenue.
Although the Escambia County Detention Center's website contains no record of the arrest, WKRG-TV reported that Atmore Police Department Sgt. Darrell McMann posted on the APD Facebook page that Luke Still, 19, was arrested May 29 while leaving a Mobile hospital.
Still is reportedly charged with one count each of first-degree assault, third-degree assault, burglary, criminal mischief and theft. It is unclear whether the burglary, theft and criminal mischief charges are related to the stabbing incident.
The suspect, as well as the 16-year-old minor he was fighting with, were seriously injured during the incident. Both underwent multiple surgeries, a factor that police say played into their restraint against Still until more than a month after the violent confrontation.
The alleged attacker and his victim were flown to area trauma centers, where surgeons worked to repair their injuries.
According to reports, two cars – one with three occupants, the other with just one person – parked in the lot after being involved in several disputes earlier in the day in other parts of the city.
They allegedly stabbed or slashed each other, but witnesses say Still took the knife from the other fighter, then stabbed the 16-year-old “four or five times.”
Reports from more than a dozen witnesses indicate that the stabbings were of such a violent nature that Still's knife blade bent, forcing him to return to his car, take a pair of stabs. brass knuckles and another knife, and to return to the fray.
Witnesses say he stabbed the young man again.
Victim of the May 27 murder
City police have still not released the name of the victim in the May 27 shooting on Terrace Street, but court documents show she was Cynthia Dale and was killed by a single gunshot. shotgun to the face.
Fred Dale Jr., 62, was arrested and charged with her murder, which occurred around 4 a.m. during a domestic dispute.
Court documents also show that Fred Dale Jr. was the subject of a “protection from abuse” order due to multiple arrests for previous domestic incidents involving the couple, who allegedly lived together or shared a domestic relationship for several decades.
The order specified that he must “not threaten or commit any acts of abuse” against Cynthia Dale, and that he was prohibited from “harassing, bothering, phoning, contacting or communicating directly with her or indirectly” with her.
Dale remained in the county jail early Tuesday, June 11. Jail records did not indicate whether he received bond.
