Toronto police identify man fatally stabbed at TTC Jane station

Toronto police have identified a man who was fatally stabbed at the Jane subway station on Tuesday.

Matthew Rumble, 39, of Toronto, died in hospital after being stabbed during an altercation, police said in a news release Wednesday.

Rumble is the city's 43rd homicide victim of the year. Police have not released a photo of him.

Police said officers were called to the station shortly after 5.50pm to reports of a stabbing.

Police say there was an argument between the suspect and the victim on a TTC bus arriving at the station. Both got off the bus in the bus stop area and then the argument escalated into a physical altercation between the two.

“During the struggle, the suspect stabbed the victim,” police said in the release.

Toronto paramedics transported the life-threatening victim to hospital, where he died.

Police said the suspect fled the scene with a woman, who police described as a person of interest. On Tuesday evening, police said the man and woman were seen running from the station westbound on Bloor Street after being stabbed.

The suspect is described as a black man, 5 feet nine to 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a thin build.

The female is described as white with blonde hair and a slim build.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
