Toronto police charge suspect with alleged child luring

A suspect is facing sexual assault charges in connection with an alleged child luring and Toronto police say they are concerned there may be other victims.

Police say a 38-year-old man communicated with a child online via Snapchat, posing as a 17-year-old.

Police allege the suspect, aware of the victim's age, met her in person and sexually assaulted her.

Officers executed a search warrant on June 11 in the area of ​​Dufferin and King Streets West as part of the investigation.

In a press release issued Wednesday, they announced that Fathi Rashid, 38, of Toronto, had been arrested. He faces numerous charges, including child luring, sexual assault, sexual interference, inciting sexual touching, indecent exposure to a person under 16 and failure to compliance with a release order.

Police said the suspect used the usernames “savag3love666” and “ydk.lov33” to communicate with the victim.

Investigators released images of the suspect Wednesday and expressed concern that there could be more victims. Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact investigators or call Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Police also outlined resources for children and parents to help keep them safe online, as well as those at risk of committing an offense.
