Police said Wednesday that Const. Andrew Corkill met this person in 2010 and had an inappropriate personal and sexual relationship with her that year and the following year.

It is alleged that during this period, the police officer sexually assaulted this person.

Corkill, 49, was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual assault and breach of trust, police said. The officer has been suspended with pay and is due in court July 29, they said.

The officer has 22 years of service and works in the 53rd Division, police said.

Corkill was temporarily demoted earlier this year after pleading guilty, through his attorney, to misconduct charges in two separate incidents.

In one case, he used police stationery in a private matter involving his tenant, according to a police court ruling. Corkill misled Toronto Hydro about that tenant's vacancy date so that they were billed incorrectly for several months, then used a police database to search for another tenant, the document says.

In another incident, the officer “continued to harass” a domestic violence victim by texting repeatedly and even contacted the shelter where she was staying, even though she made it clear she did not want him contacts her, according to the judgment.

The police officer was also charged with fraud last fall over allegations he overcharged for paid work. Police said Wednesday that those criminal charges were dropped in February, but Corkill still faces disciplinary charges in the case.
