Topekan arrested after fake bomb threat at Stormont Vail Events Center

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A Topeka woman is in jail after a fake bomb threat was made at the Stormont Vail Events Center.

Shortly before 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center received a call about a bomb threat at Southwest Topeka Boulevard and Southwest 19th Street at the Stormont Vail Events Center, according to a news release from the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office (SCSO).


According to the sheriff's office, several officers arrived on scene and evacuated the building. A SCSO canine unit combed the property and did not discover any explosive devices. During the investigation, it was discovered that an individual had told people she had placed a bomb inside the arena.

A 28-year-old Topeka woman was found nearby and arrested. She was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on a charge of aggravated criminal menacing. An investigation is ongoing.
