The best concerts happening in Sarasota and Charlotte counties this week.

Although the schedule of concerts and other local events may begin to slow down in Sarasota-Manatee over the summer, that doesn't mean we won't have notable musicians on stage. In fact, this week alone, Grammy, Tony, Juno, Latin Grammy and Blues Music Awards winning or nominated artists will be in attendance.

A Broadway actress and nominee for this year's Tony Awards that took place just a few days ago will be visiting our area this week, as will several of the best-known groups in regional Mexican music known as Duranguense, nominees for Grammys and Latinos. Grammys. Meanwhile, winners of the Blues Music Awards and Juno Awards (Canada's equivalent of the Grammys) will be returning to one of our region's best blues spots. Here are this week's highlights. Durango Festival

Duranguense, a type of regional Mexican music named after the Mexican state of Durango, will be celebrated at this concert featuring some of the biggest names in the genre. These include Chicago-area Alacranes Musical, which has several No. 1 Billboard regional Mexican albums to its credit, such as 2008's “Tu Inspiración,” which was nominated for the Grammy for Best Banda Album and has won a Latin Grammy in the same category. Celtic Ray, the Irish pub in Charlotte County that also offers live music in a variety of genres, will host Clearwater ska-punk band Victims of Circumstance this week. The group's releases include 2007's “Do It Yourself,” produced by Tim “Johnny Vegas” Burton of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and 2009's “Roll the Dice,” produced by former Big D and Kids Table member Steve Foote. A two-time winner of the Blues Music Award for Instrumentalist — Bass, Miller has released albums including 2019's “Chicken Grease” and 2010's “Blues with a Smile,” a fitting title for the charismatic performer.
