Tom Hanks Gets a Teenage Makeover in First Trailer for Unique New Movie

Tom Hanks and frequent collaborator Robert Zemeckis have teamed up for the new film Here, and Sony Pictures has just released a trailer.

The actor and director, who previously worked on Forrest Gump, Cast Away, The Polar Express and the live-action remake of Disney's Pinocchio, are back together for a drama with an original premise.

The entire film takes place from a single point of view, spanning millions of years of history until a house is built.

Things then slow down a bit to show us Hanks, who has been digitally dejuvenated to play a teenager named Richard, as he courts a potential love interest named Margaret, playing an equally dejuvenated Robin Wright (Blade Runner 2049, the DCEU).

The film shows them building a life together in the house, with the ups and downs, the parties and the nights spent reminiscing over old music videos.

The trailer ends with an elderly Richard bringing Margaret, who appears to be suffering from memory loss, for what could be a final look at the location.

Joining Hanks, Wright and Zemeckis for this concept similar to a feature-length version of Inside No 9 are Paul Bettany (Star Wars, the MCU), W1A's Ophelia Lovibond, Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery, Yellowstone's Kelly Reilly and The Great's Gwilym Lee.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Zemeckis shared his hope that this film can overcome the “uncanny valley” effect that so often occurs with digital de-aging.

“It only works because the performances are so good,” he said. “Tom and Robin understood right away that we had to go back and get back to where we were 50 or 40 years ago, and bring that energy, that kind of posture, even raise our voices higher. That kind of thing.”

Here is set to hit theaters on November 15, at least in the US. In the meantime, you can check out our guide to UK release dates for the rest of 2024.
